Space Engineers 3rd Anniversary

Dear Engineers,

Today is the 3rd anniversary of Space Engineers. Three years ago, on this very day, the game was released with it’s popularity exploding almost immediately. From the beginning, it’s been defining the genre with over 2 million copies sold worldwide (I stopped counting). Other numbers include 158 weekly game updates and over on the Steam Workshop, we’re approaching 200,000 unique creations and mods. The quality and the ingenuity of these creations continue to blow us away week on week! I’m incredibly proud that we have one of the most vibrant and active communities out there.

In recent months, our focus has been optimising and polishing the game, getting it to a more playable state and making it more accessible for players with lower end PCs. We still have many improvements to make with major render optimisations and improved multiplayer netcode prototypes in the works. You can expect to see these changes coming to the development branch in the following weeks and months.

Beyond these improvements, the newly redesigned blocks featuring PBR are nearing completion as well as some yet to be announced features.

I also want to assure you that the Xbox One port is still in development but because the game engine is written in C#/NET, the process takes a long time especially as the PC variant is still evolving.

It’s been busy at Keen Software House recently, especially with the relaunch of Medieval Engineers last week. The update which contained features such as planets, land ownership, world map, banner customization, female engineers and much more was met by the community and wider audiences with a great reception.

  1. Watch out that the blocks dont get to complicated. I think the thing we love about Space Engineers blcoks is that they are simple and so give more freedom in makin ships look like we want them to.

  2. Congrats on the 3 years. I've been around for around (over?) two of them and I still love the game. Keep up the good work

  4. Amazing work on both your games. I have spent over 1100h on Space Engineers and still play it to this day with great passion and it becomes better and better with each update. Many players who are hating do so without knowledge on how the game develops and, as it always goes, the least informed people are the most opinionated and loud ones. Players often take great things for granted, I am sure 2013 version will show more of them how the game progressed well.

  6. is the game playable with a steady frame rate on a server yet? or are we going to ad another needless planet style update to a mostly complete game and tell everyone we have to start from scratch again.

  10. SE is amazing, if you're a guy. No female engineers. Why?

  11. Yay! Good job Czech comrades! It was three bugy years with you KSH, but it worth it. Because now we have cool planets, awesome sounds and in game effects (such as fire on damaged blocks). I'm looking forward on games future, and hope it will be bright. And I hope my PC will handle this new blocks, when they will be released. Also I hope to see water in game, not as ice.

Oh, what I wanted to tell you guys? Thank you for the game, and keep up this great work.

Nikolay, aka Delecion, just some regular SE player.

  12. First, thank you for a great game, as one of the few people with over 4,400 hours playing the game who is not a youtuber, modder, or working on the game, i am begining to feel that people like me are just here to pay for the game and not be listerned to, i would love to have my voice heard, above the screams of the youtubers, but i don't believe that will happen, yes the game has come along way since it began, and yes alot of things have been added, but some of the most fundamental aspects of the game are still causing problems, i.e. rotors, pistons and landing gear, it would be nice to have some of the issues surrounding these fixed, and perhaps, it would also be nice to have some of the other people who play SE and enjoy it, to have their voice heard above others, please, we all understand that the game is still in development and still has a way to go, but it would be nice if the voices that you listen to where more that just the same tired old ones... thank you for your time..

  13. If anyone wants to follow the number of purchasers of any game, you can always take a look at SteamDB. https://steamdb.info/app/244850/graphs/ is Space Engineers.

(I tend to do this with just about any game title that achieves astounding and unexpected popularity, although only as a form of confirmatory misery, since I'm finding it harder and harder to get the time to push any of my own prospective games past the design phase. =P)

  14. I loved that game when the first time I watched a let's play video of it(a video series of köfteist köfte). I bought the game less than 1 weeks after that. I loved it everytime I played it even after annoying of bugs and giving some break. It's a good experience to see a beautiful game growing while you watch it like a baby. I wish you some more good developing years. I hope that second edition of this game will be at the time of really powerful computers that are capable of handling really difficult realism tasks with ease.

I wanted to join KSH but I'm still learning c++ and I'm also a mechanical engineering student.
