What’s inside the Xbox version?
We strived to bring all of the key features from the PC version to the Xbox.
However, these are the main differences:
- Multi-player
- A host on Xbox One and Xbox One S will support 2 player multiplayer (lobby)
1 host + 1 client - A host on Xbox One X will support 4 player multiplayer (lobby)
1 host + 3 clients - No dedicated servers
- (*we are looking into the possibility of supporting dedicated servers in the future)
- Graphics
- Xbox One X has a higher graphic setting (higher textures, better models, improved post processing) than Xbox One S.
- Features
- Only a safe mode on Xbox (experimental features are not enabled on Xbox)
- Mods are not supported (e.g. scripts, textures, blocks, animations)
- Programmable blocks are not supported
- Workshop (worlds, blueprints) is supported via in-game integration with Mod.io and is used for safe-mode worlds and blueprints (it is possible to share creations from PC to XB and vice versa)
- Scenarios
- Third party scenarios are not supported
- Official supported scenarios: First Jump, Learning to Survive & Never Surrender
- Not supported: Lost Colony
We are looking into bringing more major updates and DLCs to the Xbox One version of Space Engineers in the near future.
Performance Notes
The performance depends on the complexity of your world and which type of Xbox you’re playing on. Simple worlds run smoothly on Xbox One and Xbox One S, but a more complex world with rich object interactions could present some performance issues on the Xbox One X.
How has the Xbox version contributed to the PC version?
PC players will also benefit from the massive optimizations that our team performed on the Xbox version, especially the dedicated server users who are playing in a big world.
All the optimizations are being released on the PC version in one of the upcoming releases.
Here are some interesting numbers I’d like to share with you.
Before optimizations - The graph shows the measurements for campaign Mission 3 - Ruined Camp, on old Xbox on original (unoptimized) code version. The green line represents the sim speed 1.0. |

At this time, Marek is developing both Space Engineers and Medieval Engineers, as well as leading daily research and development on recursive self-improvement based general AI architecture - Badger.
Congratulations on great progress and wish you a great success!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward for optimization improvements =)
Thank you so much for your support!
DeleteMarek should just call the console version 'Space Engineers: Light Edition'- no mods, no scripts, no experimental mode, no dedicated servers, watered down graphics, no cross-platform. But they'll happily sell you DLC, so that's something I guess. Ha!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback. We strove to include as many of the core features for the Xbox One version of Space Engineers. Although we couldn't include everything from the PC version of Space Engineers in the Xbox port, we believe that Xbox One players will have an awesome time with Space Engineers. For example, we don't have scripts or programmable blocks (experimental mode) in the Xbox One version due to performance issues, but there are blueprints and worlds available via Mod.io. Additionally, we are looking into ways to bring dedicated servers to the Xbox port. Cheers!
DeleteSo, I love the game. And the idea that It is coming to the Xbox makes me excited for me to purchase and play with my buddies. But I thought the game was coming out on February 28th?
ReplyDeleteHi Marek, what Graphics API is being used for the Xbox version of the game? is it still DirectX 11 or has the game been updated to DirectX 12?

Deleteso we can assit you. :)
Where is ps4!!!
ReplyDeleteNext year
DeleteWe currently don't have any plans for a PlayStation version of Space Engineers.
DeleteSpace Engineers is made with the .net framework (Microsoft) and will likely not see PlayStation. I would like to make a Linux server and found it near impossible because of said framework.
DeleteGreat to see that you have finally optimised the game!
ReplyDeleteNow i would love to see some quality of life improvements and some more late-game content.
This would bring me back to SE again :)
Thanks for your feedback! Make sure you send your suggestions to: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general
ReplyDeleteso the Space Engineers Team & Community can vote, as well as comment on them.
I can't wait until the beta release! Is there any known release date for the beta? I told my friend that i got the ultimate edition, and he was so jealous XD. I can't wait! I have been waiting for this game to come out for xbox for so long. You guys are doing an amazing job! Can't wait to hop in game and start absolutely going wild!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are still finalizing the Beta schedule and will announce news on that as it becomes available.
DeleteIs there a reason why players on the Xbox One and Xbox One S will be limited to just 2 players in multiplayer compared to those on the Xbox One X. I assume this is down to the power of the One X.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly right. The Xbox One X will be able to support four players.
DeleteCan't wait I have watched Probaly a hundred hours of game play and now ill have the chance to play on my xbox one x # giddy
ReplyDeleteMore ships, bigger ships, more mods with this optimization, yay!
ReplyDeleteIf the host is playing on the One X, can the three additional players be on the One/One S?
ReplyDeleteYes, this is how it works:
DeleteA host on Xbox One and Xbox One S will support 2 player multiplayer (lobby).
A host on Xbox One X will support 4 player multiplayer (lobby)
Hi Marek or any Dev, the release date so soon its something amazing for this amazing game, I have already pre-ordered the Ultimate edition (30 dollars) becouse I know that you deserve it for all your effort!
ReplyDeleteIn the other hand, Im worried about playing time or if I will enjoy it becouse I have lots of friends who wants to play with me and they can´t for the small lobbys...
I know SE is so complex but at least 8 players in Xbox One or S and 16 players on Xbox X are good numbers and will make factions big and even the battles or the world would be more enjoylable!!!
We appreciate your support! At this time we are looking into the possibility of supporting dedicated servers in the future.
DeleteHi, any sale planned on anniversary 28th february? so much want to buy, but dont have much money(
ReplyDeleteBy 2 player multiplayer in the lobby do you mean 2 players in total or two and the host?
ReplyDelete2 players in total (1x host + 1x client) for Xbox One and Xbox One S
Delete4 players in total (1x host + 3x client) for Xbox One X
I see that dedicated servers are in the works, will there be official dedicated servers?
ReplyDeleteWe are still investigating the possibility of dedicated servers. We will post more information as it becomes available.
DeleteReally hope they manage to achieve dedicated servers even if it's a paid thing like MC realms
DeleteI pre-ordered and I'm waiting for the beta and play the game full time
ReplyDeleteYea, but how do you get access to the beta?
DeleteU have pre order it

DeleteI have pre order you game, please we need dedicated servers to play with more players
ReplyDeleteIt has been stated that the early access closed beta for the game is in March, any idea which day?
ReplyDeleteIf i pre order the game a month before april will i own the game and don't have to pay when its released or once the game is available on the day of release will i be charged then for the game
ReplyDelete"A host on Xbox One and Xbox One S will support 2 player multiplayer (lobby)
ReplyDelete1 host + 1 client"
This is extremely disappointing to read, after such a long wait to leave out the most important and exciting feature doesn't seem right at all. I certainly won't be buying a copy for Xbox.
Stop complaining and be glade its finally here
DeleteWill there be a physical release for the Xbox One, or only digital?
ReplyDeleteHi, loved this game for years, so glad it's coming to Xbox One. I'm really curious about the Co-op. Mainly will there be a host-client tether range? And if so will the distance the tether allows be dependant on the hosts console? and what kind of distance is it likely to be? I'm asking because I love the idea of being able to play with friends, but I don't want to be dragging people around when I move as the host.

DeleteWhen does the beta start? And how do you apply for access to it? I have it preordered on xbox and downloaded waiting for official release. But can't find any more info on how to gain access to beta
ReplyDeleteWhen will the beta for xbox be available?
ReplyDeleteAre there any plans to increase the Multiplayer capabilities? Specifically the number on possible players
ReplyDeleteNot a dev. But. There is a process that many games go through when it comes to large sandbox games like this. They may do some dedicated servers in the future where thousands could play at once. However it is expensive so the only way it can happen is if it sells really well now and continues to sell along the road.
Deletehey i pre-ordered space engineers for xbox one how do i gain access to the cloesd beta any help?
ReplyDeleteIt does start up on Thursday at 3pm whatever time zone they set it to. It may be a separate download in your library or it may the actual game itself

ReplyDeleteWhen does the closed beta end?
ReplyDeleteSo would the blueprints saves from local/cloud be carried over to the full release?
ReplyDeletePlease see our FAQ ~ https://forums.keenswh.com/threads/xbox-closed-beta.7403667/
DeleteHi is the game are translate in French ?
ReplyDeleteWe do not have plans for a French translation (on Xbox) at this time.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGiven the current events and many gamers being told to stay at home if there any chance for an early release sort of by the end of March ?
No they are not changing the release date they are sticking to the April 15th date as we know so far I'm personally happy with the date they picked after all the hard work to bring SE to Xbox one if your unhappy with the date you can help them with BETA pre-order the game first
Deletewill the DLC'S of 2020 for space engineers Xbox One version be available on the Xbox store after the release date April 15th
ReplyDeleteSome DLC will be available at launch with more becoming available over time. We do not have a release schedule for DLC at this time.
DeleteNo programmable blocks? Will they ever be added?
ReplyDeleteWe do not have any plans to include the programmable block at this time.
DeleteIs the BETA and the actual game being release on April 15th the same game? Or does it have more features?
ReplyDeleteThe two builds are similar. The Beta program has allowed us to gather player feedback and correct any issues you encountered.
DeleteDue to the virus is the game still coming out on the 11th/15th?
ReplyDeleteLike the rest of the world we are adapting to the situation. We are still on schedule for our release. Stay safe.
DeleteWhat time will the preorderd release be today?
ReplyDeleteSpace Engineers will be available for play, to preorder customers, today April 11th at 18:00 GMT.
DeleteOkay, so I'm kinda ignorant when it comes to this stuff, but if we *do* get access to dedicated servers in the future, what exactly does that entail? As in, what makes it different than normal hosting other than the fact that it's always available? Will the number of players allowed in at a time go up or what? This is probably an obvious answer to most people, so if anyone could inform me, thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteJust do me a favor and work on adding scrips and I'll be happy.
ReplyDeletebest
ReplyDeleteNice post thank you Aaron
