The new Wasteland update is here! Wasteland is all about racing, speed, dust, roaring engines, twisted metal, and especially, fun with your friends. We have focused heavily on the multiplayer racing experience, something we hope you enjoy with other players. Wasteland provides you with new choices when designing your creations. With this new set of blocks, you can now build even better vehicles, cars, and rovers. And we can’t wait to see what you create!

Free Content

As with every update, since Space Engineers moved out of early access, we are expanding the number of blocks, materials, and features with the Wasteland release. Expand your creative arsenal with new blocks, specifically created for this occasion, and new voxel materials designed to provide that “perfect” racing feeling. Take a seat in a new cockpit and cruise your vehicle across the landscape of a brand new planet, custom built for Wasteland.
You can find the list of all new free game additions below. We are again giving you the opportunity to support the future development of Space Engineers by buying the Wasteland DLC, which includes even more thematic additions to Space Engineers.

Scrap Race Scenario

Xbox Dedicated Servers

Since the release of Space Engineers on Xbox, dedicated servers have been a high priority! Not just as a requested feature, but as a single solution for many of our most requested community features.
Increasing the number of players in a multiplayer game, unlimited PCUs, and scripting were the biggest requests on our support forums from the community. The answer to all of these are Dedicated Servers.
From now on, you can join any public server in the Join Game screen:

The “Join Game” screen also features a favorites and a history tab, where you can find the last joined servers or your favorites. The “Friends” tab will list the servers where any of your friends are connected.
Starting today, there are multiple official public servers, available for free, for each major region.
You can even spawn your own Dedicated Server right from the Join screen, selecting our Nitrado partner logo. It will start their eponymous app, where you can set up the server however you want. If you don’t feel like having the server public, it can be password protected.
You can also enable scripts there.
See our partner’s app for more details on pricing and server setup instructions.

Other Xbox News

With this update, we have made numerous improvements to Gamepad controls and Xbox build overall.
You can now scroll through the block variants in the recent blocks, set the size of the GUI for TVs cropping your screen edges, improved block grouping, set exact value for any slider in the game and many many more. See the changelog for the whole list.
Last but not least, we have added support for spiders and wolfs AI to the Xbox build.
This update is packed with improvements for the Xbox community and we feel it finally got the attention it deserved. Please, let us know what you think!

Wasteland Pack

Similar to our previous major releases, we decided to give you an opportunity to support the further development of Space Engineers. We have created a pack that consists of cosmetic items that enrich your game visually. You can experience them in the free Wasteland scenario. None of the things in the package brings any advantage to players who purchase this DLC. The package includes the following items:

What’s Next?

We plan to continue with the development of Space Engineers for both PC and Xbox platforms. With this release we are aligning the content between PC and Xbox, so all players on Xbox have the same content available. Our focus is also on further performance improvements and optimizations on both platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are you releasing another DLC?
A: As with our previous DLCs, this release gives us the opportunity to explore new ideas and provide more unique content the community wants. We have kept the same approach, all players will be able to interact with the blocks, but only those who own the DLC pack will be able to build them.
Q: Should we now expect that we will get a new DLC every three months?
A: Free and paid content releases support the continued development of Space Engineers, as well as bringing new things to the game. All paid DLCs are not pay-to-win, but rather cosmetic. We think this is the right way to bring interesting content to the game and keep the game improving. We bring a lot of free content to all players. This content is usually highly requested by our community.
Q: Can we expect some special promotions in the future?
A: We are always looking at new ways to bring Space Engineers to a wider audience. Special promotions are good opportunities for this. We just had a massive promotion on Steam and we have a number of exciting promotions planned for the future, which includes both game and DLC content!

  1. Ah yes, more "decorative" blocks like the beds, aka massively cheaper cryopods. Thanks keen, very cool. Can't wait for the next round of balance-breaking "decorative" blocks.

    1. A "cryopod" that can't refill oxygen or hydrogen, can't connect to the cargo system, leaves the occupant completely exposed to everything including gunfire, and can't even maintain its own environment, thus relying exclusively on whether you've got a fully sealed and pressurized room around it? How very unbalanced. You're right. Time to light the pitchforks and torches, boys! We've got to tear down these corrupt, money-grubbing scum because they charged me 4 dollars for a BED.

Keen, don't listen to these jerks. You're doing great work, and I and a great many others really appreciate and enjoy everything you've done with SE.

  2. Thank you for keeping this game alive and kicking! i look forward for any future dlc's and maybe.. just maybe… a new turret type/skin? *wink wink*

    1. So happy to hear you are enjoying the new content! We appreciate your support!

  3. Speaking of other DLC for bigger games or franchises this DLC is rather nice. I really ding the wasteland appeal. desert planet with soem water mod and you'll have a mix of Waterworld meets Mad Max.

  4. Marek, don't take this as a jab, but I find it ironic and a bit frustrating that the creator of Space Engineers specializes in AI. Space Engineers, the nearly perfect game if not for the serious lack of NPCS and a good AI system. I don't pretend to understand the limitations SE's architecture, and what challenges would have to be overcome to do it, but please find a way to merge your children. Thanks 🙂

    1. We hear you and we know how important feature requests, like NPC's are. If you would like to share your ideas with us please head over to our support portal!

You can tell use what you envision for NPC's or vote on other similar suggestions.

  5. First of all, huge thanks for the new DLC, already bought it. I have a doubt thoug: Exactly how was the hydrogen rebalanced? i missed that part of the stream :c could you tell me that part? or link me to the apropiate forum/video? thanks in advance!

    1. Roughly doubled capacity of all hydrogen tanks, made them comparatively better.

Halved hydrogen engine fuel consumption and doubled the production of hydrogen from ice.

Small grid hydrogen tank component costs reduced, making them much lighter but also a bit weaker. We also reduced the hydrogen engines internal storage capacity.

  6. concrete ( and wood there basically game changing skins) one of those new lights and the particle emitter should be vanilla

    1. Can't agree more, concrete is too basic to avoid implementing it in the base game

  7. I always enjoy new decorative blocks … but still … with every major patch, i always hope before reading the patchnotes, that actually being able to place multiple blocks at some spot would be added.
Like, i do can put all decorations into a room … but adding light is impossible after putting everything in (or you end up with way to much empty space for no reason)

continuing to dream for the next patch … in Medival Engineers it worked, so i know you can do it already. Just please do it :3

  8. Is there a way to have the xbox series X version if we own the PC one? I know the answer is no but I'm trying lol.

    1. In order to play Space Engineers on Xbox you will need to purchase it separately. We do appreciate you trying though 🙂

    1. Visual Scripting Tool. This means that servers now support scripts generated by this tool.

  9. Fantastic DLC! I already got it 😀
What is Pertam size? So I can spawn it in my existing world

    1. The planets size in the Scrap Race Scenario is 50KM. If you would like to spawn this planet into your game you can set a custom size for it (when spawned).

  10. Even though I knew the "Tracks?" post was literally just tire tracks, there was still some hope in it being tank tracks in this dlc. Will we ever see tank tracks in SE that isn't going to scream PRAISE CLANG, as in an actual tank track block like wheels?

  11. Planet size? Gravity? Breathable?

Why are these details not in the update description. I can't find any details about the new planet at all.

    1. The planet is 50KM in size, has a breathable atmosphere, and a gravity of 1.2G.

  12. Hello Can we host self host a server on our own PCs instead of going though Nitrado?
if not is there any plans in the future to allow this?

    1. You can play on Pertam either in the Scrap Race Scenario, the Star System scenario, or by adding the world to your game via Admin.

  13. when you write "doubled the production of hydrogen from ice", do you mean that it doubles the production of hydrogen in the same amount of time or simply doubles the amount of hydrogen produced from the same amount of ice?

    1. Doubled the amount of hydrogen produced from the same amount of ice. Processing speed remains unchanged. I hope that provides some clarity.

  14. Very cool update but for us poor folk who can't afford to spend extra cash on a Nitrado server that only works when it feels like… can we look forward to getting to host our own servers one day?
