Our civilization is facing unprecedented challenges. Artificial intelligence will erase the value of human labor and destroy traditional economic power. Authoritarian states threaten liberal democracy, while Europe retreats into comfortable mediocrity. If we fail to adapt, we are not merely facing decline – we risk becoming irrelevant in a world shaped by new great powers. These are not just problems – they are catalysts for the next evolution of civilization.
As an entrepreneur and game developer, I have learned that survival means change. Running a game studio and developing Space Engineers taught me that success is a constant struggle – facing market uncertainty, building a team, overcoming technical challenges, and responding to the community. The same principle now applies to civilization as a whole.
To meet these challenges, we must first understand how civilization works. It is a complex system of rules and relationships that determines our fate. And now, for the first time in history, we have tools that allow us to systematically test and improve that system. Using advanced simulations, we can explore how societies evolve – testing balances of power, economic models, and systems of governance. By simulating possible futures, we can identify which systems preserve freedom while encouraging innovation, which economic models can prevent collapse once labor loses its value, and how to balance centralized efficiency with distributed resilience. This is not theory – it is prototyping the future of humanity.
Europe stands paralyzed by comfort while others shape the future. Our heritage of scientific revolution, architectural wonders, and democratic values proves our capacity for greatness. Yet today, Europe paralyzes progress through overregulation, suffocates ambitious projects with excessively cautious capital, and fragments its strength through national interests. Instead of technological sovereignty, we focus on work-life balance; instead of hard work, we seek comfort; and instead of bold visions, we drown in bureaucracy. Our education systems prioritize national identity over a European one, while we forget the legacy of great Europeans – from Archimedes to Copernicus – who helped shape the modern world. We need a new European dream that combines American technological optimism with something uniquely our own – a vision on the scale of civilization itself.
The future demands a grand vision. Imagine a multi-planetary civilization in which breakthroughs in longevity overcome the limitations of death. Where space-based manufacturing and asteroid mining provide virtually unlimited resources. Where AI and humans achieve true symbiosis. This is not wishful thinking – it is a roadmap we must accelerate. The alternative? Watching from the sidelines as others shape humanity’s destiny.
A strong civilization requires strong individuals. We must become more resilient – physically and mentally – to handle the unpredictable challenges of the future. That means confronting challenges directly, actively seeking difficult situations, and growing by overcoming them. It is not about merely protecting ourselves and avoiding risk – we must strengthen our capabilities so we can thrive in new challenges. Every such decision either opens or closes doors to the future. An example? Comfortable dependence on a single energy source versus resilient diversification. Specialization in one skill versus broad development. A civilization confined to Earth versus one prepared to conquer space. A comfortable society cannot survive in this world. Restricting our growth in the name of safety and comfort is a path toward extinction.
The economic revolution is not coming – it is already here. When AI replaces human labor, traditional work will lose its value. What will matter is ownership of capital, land, and resources. This upheaval in the foundations of the economy could either destabilize society or force us to create entirely new models of wealth distribution and economic participation. While others debate incremental solutions, we must design and test entirely new economic systems for a world in which human labor has no value. Every day of delay increases the risk.
Through sophisticated simulations, we can explore and optimize these futures. We are no longer playing – we are architecting the next iteration of civilization. For the first time, we can become conscious creators of the future rather than passive users.
Our moment of choice has arrived. We can embrace bold transformation or cling to familiar decline. The next renaissance needs builders, not philosophers. Europe needs doers, not debaters. Every individual action – whether learning new skills, launching ambitious projects, or building new technologies – directly shapes the future of civilization. Look at your own life – are you maximizing possibilities or minimizing risks? Are you creating value or merely consuming it? Are you building the future or hiding from it?
The age of comfortable mediocrity is over. The future belongs to those who dare to shape it. Will you remain a spectator, or become a catalyst? The system is changing. The future is loading. The next great transformation is waiting for its pioneers. Every day you wait is another day someone else decides your future. Will you be one of them?
