Marek’s Dev Diary: November 5, 2026

About This Dev Diary

Every Thursday, I share some of what we’ve been working on – the challenges, solutions, and ideas that caught my attention. This is my unfiltered dev journal, so my thoughts and plans may change quickly, and nothing here is set in stone. And if you don’t like spoilers, don’t read further!

Space Engineers 1

Please join us Monday, November 16, for the Space Engineers: Warfare 3 Update & Pack release!

Warfare 3 is bringing one of the biggest combat overhauls Space Engineers has ever seen. From Combat NPCs, guided missiles and torpedoes to countermeasure flares, EMP weapons, Jump Detection, new automation options, and much more, this update changes how battles are fought, defended, and engineered.

Space Engineers 2

Final Pistol Model

When we released Hostile Encounters, the pistol you picked up was a placeholder model. It did its job, but it was never meant to stay. In the next update, we’re replacing it with the final Space Engineers 2 pistol.

Here you can see our progress, from the first concept art shapes to the finished model in-game.

More Poplar Trees

Running through the Verdure forests should feel like exploring a real place, not walking past the same tree again and again. That’s why we will be adding multiple poplar shapes, so the forest breaks up naturally and you don’t notice the same tree repeating around you.

Here you can see some of them:

Holiday Cheer Event

The holidays are coming, and this year we want to bring some of your creations directly into Space Engineers and Space Engineers 2.

Send us your best winter and Christmas-themed screenshots from either game at community@keenswh.com – snowy bases, festive ships, decorated stations, or anything else that captures the holiday spirit.

We’ll select our favorites and feature them in a special video on our YouTube channel during the holiday season, helping spread a little Christmas cheer across both games.

So get building, decorating, and screenshotting – we can’t wait to see what you create.

Question to you: How do you like the new Space Engineers 2 pistol?

Share your thoughts in the comments below – I read them all, and they’re one of my favorite parts of making our games.

Wow, I was taken aback by the view of the sunlight through the tree branches! It is so beautiful!

The shape of the pistol is great! The blocky nature of the front is perfect for the game.

This is a strange sentiment, but I believe that if you can build a giant model of the pistol with in-game 25cm blocks and capture most of the details, then it means that the overall art style is successful. It suggests in-universe that there is consistent manufacturing capability across multiple scales.

I have played a few sandbox games where this wasn’t the case and it feels like someone just threw in the most jarring and cool weapon models they could find, but in a medieval world…

    Keep up the great work!

Biography

I have always been driven by the need to create — games, AI agents, ideas. That’s why I started Keen Software House: to create games that only existed in my head. After Space Engineers took off, I founded GoodAI to develop AGI, to help humanity and understand the universe.

These days I’m focused on Space Engineers 2, the VRAGE3 engine, AI People, and autonomous agents in general — powering NPCs in our games, or swarms of autonomous and intelligent drones.

It’s all part of my long-term plan: to make civilization stronger, greater, and more resilient.

Our home base is a 17th-century Oranžérie in Prague — but we’re a remote-first, global team of 100+ programmers, artists, designers, and engineers.

I am proudly European , and in the last few years, I’ve come to love South Africa and its people.
